Storyteller Consent Form

  1. Storyteller Participation and Preferences. Participation as a Storyteller is entirely voluntary, and each Storyteller retains the ability to manage aspects of engagement with Harpier. This includes not only shared stories/testimonials but also insights and preferences regarding future participation. While submitted contributions become part of Harpier’s curated collection and cannot be revoked after distribution, a Storyteller may request updates or modifications for accuracy or clarity. Additionally, if a Storyteller wishes to adjust participation preferences—such as opting out of specific engagement opportunities or limiting future use of contributions in new distributions—a request may be submitted to [privacy@harpier.com]. Harpier will take reasonable steps to accommodate such requests while preserving prior commitments and materials already in use. Harpier remains committed to ensuring that Storyteller contributions are shared with purpose, impact, and respect, while maintaining the flexibility needed to manage and distribute them effectively.
  2. Managing Storyteller Participation. Harpier offers multiple ways for Storytellers to engage, from sharing stories/testimonials and insights to participating in special initiatives, discussions, or follow-up opportunities. Each Storyteller has the ability to determine their level of involvement.
A Storyteller may set or update participation preferences at any time, including:

    • Selecting which types of engagement to participate in (e.g., interviews, follow-up conversations, or new storytelling opportunities).
    • Indicating availability for further contributions or opting out of future requests.
    • Adjusting how insights and experiences are referenced in ongoing initiatives.

To update participation preferences, a Storyteller may contact Harpier at [privacy@harpier.com]. While Harpier will make reasonable efforts to honor such requests promptly, changes may not apply retroactively to materials already in use. Harpier remains committed to creating a flexible and respectful engagement experience, ensuring that each Storyteller’s involvement aligns with their comfort and preferences.

  3. Consent to Disclose Data. By selecting the “yes” option, any individual (the “Storyteller”) grants Harpier LLC, a New York limited liability company (“Harpier”) consent to disclose the Storyteller’s personally identifiable information (“PII”) and, where applicable, education records protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”) as defined in Section 3 to prospective and current users (“Recipients”) for the purposes described in Section 2 below.
  4. Permitted Disclosures. Harpier may disclose the Storyteller’s Data to Recipients for any purpose, including but not limited to the following: (a) Recipients being recruited to an institution or program, (b) Recipients navigating their career journey, (c) Recipients navigating their education search and decision-making process, (d) making connections between Storytellers and Recipients based on mutual interaction preferences, and (e) helping institutions prepare an enhanced experience based on the Storyteller’s testimonial and/or contribution preferences. The Storyteller also understands that Harpier may use such Data with respect to any organization the Storyteller is affiliated with.
  5. Data Covered. “Data” means, but is not limited to, the Storyteller’s created profile and content that may include their name, image, likeness, contact information, demographic information, educational history, employment information, context of the Storyteller’s experiences, thoughts and feedback on experiences, contribution and interaction preferences, social media accounts, and any other personally identifiable information (“PII”) collected and maintained by Harpier regarding the Storyteller. In cases where the Storyteller’s contributions include educational records covered under FERPA, Harpier will process such information in accordance with applicable legal requirements. Where applicable, the collection, processing, and storage of Data will also comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”).
  6. Data Rights and Compliance. Harpier is committed to protecting the privacy and rights of Storytellers under applicable data protection laws, including GDPR for individuals in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the UK, and CCPA for California residents.

    • GDPR Rights (For EU/UK Storytellers): Storytellers covered under GDPR may have rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and objection to processing of their Data.
    • CCPA Rights (For California Residents): Storytellers covered under CCPA may have rights including access to Data collected, the right to request deletion of Data, the right to opt out of the sale of personal Data (if applicable), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

Storytellers wishing to exercise their rights under GDPR or CCPA may contact Harpier at [privacy@harpier.com] for assistance. Requests will be processed in accordance with applicable laws and subject to verification procedures.

  7. No Compensation. The Storyteller understands that they will not receive any compensation from Harpier, Recipients, or any organizations in connection with this agreement, except in special circumstances where Harpier, Recipients, or the organization (if applicable) explicitly provide notice that compensation, reward, or recognition will be given in exchange for the Storyteller’s contribution. Harpier assumes no responsibility for compensation or obligations unless explicitly stated.
  8. Storyteller’s Role and Representation. The Storyteller acknowledges that their story/testimonial may be shared either directly with Recipients or on behalf of an organization or institution, such as a university, company, or program. In cases where the Storyteller’s contribution is part of an organization’s outreach or recruitment efforts, the Storyteller may be representing that organization through their story. The Storyteller is made aware of the inviting organization or institution through Harpier’s customized Story Onboarding Experience, which reflects the branding of the respective entity. Harpier assumes no responsibility for compensation or obligations unless explicitly stated.
  9. Use and Management of Your Contributions. By participating as a Storyteller, the individual grants Harpier a broad and unrestricted right to use, adapt, distribute, and share submitted stories, insights, and any other contributions across various formats and platforms for purposes including, but not limited to, education, promotion, and audience engagement. This allows Harpier to curate and refine contributions to maximize their impact while maintaining their core integrity. Harpier retains full discretion over how Storyteller contributions are managed, organized, and shared, ensuring alignment with its mission and intended audiences. While Harpier takes care to present stories and insights thoughtfully, it may refine contributions for grammatical accuracy, readability, and alignment with the intended audience, while ensuring the core message and integrity remain intact. Once shared, contributions may continue to be used as part of Harpier’s archives, materials, and outreach efforts.
  10. Storyteller Indemnification. The Storyteller shall indemnify, hold harmless, and, at Harpier’s option, defend Harpier from and against: (1) any injury or losses resulting from any third-party claim that the Data, or any use of the Data in accordance with the purposes outlined in Section 2, infringes or misappropriates such third-party’s US intellectual property rights, and (2) any injury or losses resulting from a Recipient’s use of the Data, including any injury or losses resulting from a third-party’s use of the Data if that injury is a direct result of the Recipient’s use or disclosure of the Data.
  11. Governing Law. This consent form shall be governed by the laws of New York.
  12. Entire Agreement. This document, together with the Privacy Policy, constitutes the entire agreement between Harpier and the Storyteller relating to the disclosure of Data to Recipients. Harpier reserves the right to update this agreement periodically. Any updates will be reflected in this document and posted here, with the latest version taking effect upon publication.
